Saroo Brierley was born in an Indian town called Khandwa. In 1986, aged only 5, he lost all contact with his family when at a train station waiting for a brother who never returned.
After living on the streets of Calcutta by himself, Saroo was placed into a local orphanage where he was adopted by an Australian family. Saroo then grew up with his newly adopted family in Hobart, Tasmania where he spent the next 25 years.
With only an image image etched into his brain as a 5 year old, he started the search for his old town tracking the labyrinth of Indian railway lines on Google Earth. In early 2012, after 25 years of separation, he found his home town of Khandwa and reunited with his Mother.
